As part of the European H2020 BBI-JU Innovation Action, the SPIRALG project was granted €4 million to demonstrate the sustainability of an EU-designed biorefinery process using the entire Spirulina biomass for the agri-food and health sectors. Coordinated by Greensea (France), SPIRALG gathers 4 other partners including Algaia for the valorization of co-products after phycocyanin extraction.
For an update on this innovative project looking to provide high value commercial products from algae biomass, see the Spiralg website.
