RESEARCH PROJECTS
Locality
LOCALITY is focusing on the development of the circular use of algal biomass in various market applications such as food, aquafeed, plant biostimulants and biocontrols, and textile dyes.
Algaia is leading the work package on algae-based agricultural products.

SeaMark
SeaMark is a European project coordinated by Ocean RainForest, that focuses on seaweed biorefinery which is at the heart of Algaia’s know-how and strategy.
The goal:
To unlock the potential of algae for a thriving European blue bioeconomy, SeaMark will go beyond state of the art with the installation of a pilot biorefinery plant for cultivated seaweed, producing multiple high value functional ingredients to meet the development needs of industry.
The long-term ambition of SeaMark is to lay the foundation for a competitive, bio-based circular blue economy in Europe, which simultaneously addresses global challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss and ocean acidification, benefitting society, the economy and our environment.

Algae4IBD
Pain, inflammation, and an imbalanced gut-microbiome are all characteristics of IBD. The combined power of algae can help improve the well-being of IBD patients.
The objective of Algae4IBD is to develop functional food and medication against pain, inflammation and IBD.

TEXMATER
TEXMATER
TexMaTer, short for “TEXtile solutions from MArine and TERrestrial biomass”, is a collaborative effort supported by 17 European partners. The project aims at creating new cellulosic fibres and bioformulations for textile finishes using underutilized biomass resources and waste.
The goal
To drive sustainability in the textile and clothing industry by:
– Reducing dependency on synthetic or natural fibers
– Minimizing the use of harmful synthetic dyes and chemicals in textile finishing processes.
Algaia will lead Work Package 1 on Agricultural and algal biomass production and processing and participate to many other Work Packages throughout the project.
