Last week, our team gathered at Amazon‘s London offices to advance the North Sea Farm 1 Project (NSF1), supported by the Amazon Right Now Climate Fund represented by Steve Kellett.
This pioneering project, backed by the recent addition to our consortium of the Simply Blue Group, aims to test the cultivation of brown seaweed between offshore windfarms in the Netherlands.
Set to be the world’s first commercial-scale seaweed farm within an offshore windfarm, NSF1 will span 10ha off the Dutch coast. We’re gearing up for its operational launch this autumn, with seeding followed by the first harvest expected in spring 2025.
Our mission? To explore seaweed farming’s potential in terms of carbon cycle and impact on biodiversity around cultivation structures.
Algaia is thrilled to work alongside Deltares, Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML), and Silvestrum Climate Associates to devise seaweed cultivation strategies.
Together, we develop the blue economy and showcase seaweed farming’s potential for sustainability and innovation.
